WELCOME:
I never intended to be a photographer. I fell into it while on my way to something else and lost track of where I thought I was going. A happy accident. Photography is for me basically a string of happy accidents. While I greatly admire photographers who can set up and execute a carefully thought out vision of beauty, I am not one of them. That is not my talent and rarely my inclination. If I have a talent, it lies more in recognizing beauty than in creating it. As my skills have grown, I perhaps have become better at coaxing it to come into the open, a kind of midwife to reluctant visions, but I cannot create it where it does not exist. So to me, photography is — more than anything else — about timing. Timing is everything. And I think it is a great and underappreciated lesson that the beauty at it's most heartrending is always serendipitous. One moment it is suddenly there, right before you, offering a window into the divine and then it is gone. You cannot craft it, or plan for it, or see it coming.
You can only be ready. . .
